Hello, Golden Glow seekers!
As the gentle Sunday morning light from Boston peeks through my windows, I'm thinking about something that's been a real game-changer for this recovering perfectionist: the life changing freedom of imperfection!
For many years, I thought Sunday should be renamed "Perfect Day" – picture the soft morning light falling on the flawlessly folded laundry on the counter. Then shop, prepare, serve, decorate and clean up Pinterest-worthy brunch for my family. And maybe a self care routine usually reserved for meditating gurus.
The reality?
More like an extra cup of coffee, a rogue sock under the couch, not leaving the house until noon and a fleeting moment of pondering the meaning of life while savoring that second cup.
Sound familiar?
Let's be honest, the quest for perfection is exhausting, and usually ends with me needing more coffee! As someone who once believed "if it's not flawless, it's a flop," I'm slowly learning that the real sparkle of life (especially on Sundays) comes from letting go, having fun and embracing the beautiful mess.
Sort of the way a crooked smile is somehow more charming than a perfectly posed one, right?
And guess what?
My focus with being perfect often kept me stuck, terrified of even trying in case I didn't nail it. Talk about a joy-killer!
But think about it… that chipped mug holding your Sunday brew? It's got character and a story! Those slightly wonky pancakes? Made with love (maybe too much enthusiasm), but just as delicious as the perfectly round dollar pancakes from Martha Stewart.
So, this Sunday, let's give our inner perfectionist a little vacation, or a Sunday stay-cation!
Here's your permission slip to embrace the imperfect:
Ditch the comparison scroll: Social media is often just the "Highlight Reel." Remember living in the moment of your real-life, wonderfully imperfect Sunday is way more fulfilling! And try to rest your eyes by turning off your phone for an hour.
Give yourself a "hall-pass" to self kindness: Didn't "achieve" peak relaxation? Didn't conquer your to-do list? You're still awesome. Try to roll with it and let it go. Seriously. You are enough, comfy pants and all.
Celebrate your effort: The new recipe didn’t turn out the way you wanted? It was still an adventure in the kitchen! Progress, not perfection, is the goal.
Savor the simple joys: Relish the cozy silence while you sink into your soft snuggling under your soft blanket, appreciate the unexpected chat with a neighbor, enjoy the way the sun feels on your face – these perfectly unplanned moments are pure gold. And living in the moment.
Maybe the true "golden glow" of Sunday is just letting go of the need to be perfect and sinking into the genuine, wonderfully human experience of it all. Imperfections aren't flaws; they're just life doing its thing, and often, they're what make things truly special (and way less stressful!).
And hey, guess what?
You, in all your glorious imperfection, are absolutely enough to enjoy this Sunday.
Wishing you a week filled with your own kind of wonderfully imperfect golden glow!

Give yourself a "hall-pass" to self kindness. This made me laugh, especially as a teacher, and is something I need to strive for more often. At our elementary school, some students put up wonderful little inspiration notes on index cards (not necessarily correct spelling or beautifully written). They're taped up in random places and continually make me smile. Maybe I should repeat this at home.
