Hello Golden Glow Seekers!
Our collective goal in our community has been about the pursuit of authentic healing. And I haven't just written about that journey; I've lived it at its most extreme. I've tried it all: the ancient practices, the cutting-edge therapies, the experimental treatments on the other side of the world. My body endured, healed then a new health challenge would emerge. I went through many up’s and down’s of healing. I focused mainly on my body to heal it through chemistry and biological functioning.
However, my spirit was still chained to the past which prevented me from completely healing. I’d become an expert on how the body functions, how it breaks down, and ways to build it back up again. But I hadn’t found the final key to heal my whole self, body, and SOUL. That feeling of being almost healed, yet still tethered to unconscious wounds is a uniquely frustrating place to be.
Unlocking the Final Chapter of Healing: Your Nervous System Holds the Key
Through all of my research, education, and work with countless functional doctors, one fundamental truth has become undeniably clear: the body cannot truly heal without regulating the nervous system.
NOURISHING FACTS: The nervous system is the body’s system that controls and regulates all bodily functions, from the involuntary functions like digestion, breathing and heart rate to your complex processes like learning, thoughts, feelings, and sleep. With a dysregulated nervous system, too many of your body’s processes are out of sync and it has a ripple effect. When your nervous system is locked in the ”fight or flight” state, it elevates your stress hormones which causes your health to suffer. All body systems take a hit: Immune, cardiovascular, digestive, and muscular, as well as sleep.
We can chase symptoms, address physical ailments, take endless supplements and even diligently reshape our thought patterns, but if our nervous system remains locked in a constant state of fight, flight, or freeze, full body health is simply a distant dream.
I experienced this firsthand. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) was a powerful tool that, in many ways, broke me down and meticulously built me back up emotionally. It equipped me with invaluable coping mechanisms and new perspectives. And while I am profoundly grateful for the foundational support it laid, it ultimately didn't fully sever the chains from my past. The lingering negative voices, the ingrained emotional responses, the echoes of trauma that lived in my body – they persisted, almost undetectable yet impactful.
This realization led me to a deep dive into the final chapter of healing: directly addressing the mind body connection which is tied to the nervous system. Here are a few things I've personally used to help regulate mine, leading to profound shifts in my body – less GI pain, increased energy, and significantly improved sleep.
Tools for Nervous System Regulation and Deeper Healing
1. and his Groundbreaking Work on Guided Meditations.
This is not only about manifesting an item on your wish list like abundance, wealth, love or even health. While those are a complimentary byproduct of his method, the core of Dispenza's teachings is about something deeper: a complete transformation from within, breaking free from the negative voices in your head to create a new reality to feel and envision your future.
Dispenza's approach is rooted in his research that understanding our thoughts and emotions create our reality. This, in turn, then affects our health. He asserts that we have been conditioned by our past experiences and the associated emotions. These ingrained patterns keep us stuck, running on autopilot, perpetuating the very existence we seek to escape.
For me, this manifested as pervasive anxiety, a persistent unwelcome unshakeable 'default setting' each morning. I’d wake up with the same worn-out emotions from the day before, bombarded by thoughts like, "I can't heal," "I can't do this” or "I’m afraid." This is precisely the root of Joe Dispenza’s work: recognizing these unconscious belief systems and actively breaking free from them. His work teaches us to reset our thoughts, embody and feel our desired future in our mind and body as if it’s already our present reality. This releases you from the emotional anchors from your past that held you back.
Dispenza’s guided meditations are so much more than relaxation exercises; they are powerful tools designed to help us become aware of these unconscious programs and actively rewire our brains. He also guided me in a process to activate feelings in my brain and heart that promoted a feeling of well being. This then healed my body and soul!
2. Meditations at Night for Improved Sleep and Reduction in Anxiety.
Let's bust a common myth about sleep right now: we all need exactly 8 hours of sleep. While 8 hours is the common recommendation, the right amount of sleep varies significantly from person to person. Some individuals truly thrive on 6 hours, while others genuinely need 9. What truly matters is the quality of that sleep. If you’re waking up feeling refreshed and focused, your amount of sleep may be just right for you, regardless of the clock.
For years, I struggled to achieve truly restorative sleep, with chronic anxiety, parasites and pain being major contributors. Incorporating dedicated nighttime meditations has been a game-changer. These aren't just for relaxation; they help calm the overactive mind, shift the nervous system from a high-alert state to one of rest and repair, and create a tranquil bridge to deeper sleep. Since beginning these meditations, I feel more energized all day, GI issues have cleared about 90%, I’m focusing better, and have more energy for my morning runs that I love so much!
To further support this process, I've found benefits from supplements designed to promote a calm state. I sometimes turn to IONS Restful Sleep, a blend crafted to aid relaxation and improve sleep quality. Its key ingredients include:
Ashwagandha: A powerful adaptogen known for aiding in relaxation and stress reduction.
Saffron: Shown to help improve both sleep quality and mood.
L-Tryptophan: An amino acid that acts as a precursor, promoting the natural production of melatonin (the sleep hormone) and serotonin (a mood stabilizer).
Chamomile: A well-known herb that supports a calm and relaxed state.
Reishi: A medicinal mushroom traditionally used to promote overall well-being and tranquility.
Together, these elements create a synergistic effect, helping to quiet the mind, ease the body, and pave the way for the profound, restorative sleep that is so vital for nervous system regulation and true healing. More importantly, Restful Sleep is a gentle, melatonin-free approach to sleep health and does not use the kind of pharmaceuticals that frequently cause grogginess the next morning.
This process of healing my soul has been truly transformative for me. After only a month of doing a deep dive with Dr. Joe, my energy has significantly increased, I healed 90% of my gut issues like bloating and pain, and my skin issues are resolving. My sleep has also improved since my nervous system has calmed after incorporating this practice into my healing journey. I’m in alignment with the vision of my future self as fully healed. I've experienced a profound shift, and I’m feeling more vibrant and healthy than ever before.
Now, the way I view myself is as Melissa first and no longer consider my default identity as having a disease. It's a total paradigm shift and the joy I feel living my vibrant life in my healed body is something I will always be grateful for.
