Golden Glow Sunday cracks open a raw question: When facing judgement, do we dim our inner light or let it shine brighter?
We see it everywhere – on social media, amongst friends, colleagues, even acquaintances. It's easy to glance at someone's life and fire off an opinion, but the truth is, we can never truly know what's going on behind the scenes.
We can't fathom the depths of another's stress, fears, and burdens. Their life story is their unique tapestry woven from experiences, challenges, and triumphs we haven't lived. Assuming we understand their struggle simply projects our own anxieties and insecurities onto them.
How can we cultivate empathy to build stronger connections in our lives?
The most comforting gift we can offer a friend is a listening ear filled with empathy. Empathy allows us to step outside our own shoes and see the world through another's eyes. It means acknowledging their pain without judgment and offering support, even if their path is different from ours.
My Personal Journey
As I battle a complex disease that's left functional AND conventional medicine doctors around the world perplexed, I've faced a wave of skepticism and judgment.
12 years ago, I was drowning in a sea of over 100 symptoms. Through mostly unconventional paths (and yes, battling some icky parasites that almost took me down – I won't stop talking about them because awareness is key!), I've whittled it down to 3 symptoms that are still significantly impacting my health and daily life. Each step, in my own way, has brought me closer to complete healing.
But here's the thing: giving up isn't an option. My path may be unconventional, but it's mine, and my determination to heal is unwavering. Understanding, not agreement, is the greatest gift.
Let's Celebrate the Journey, Not Judge It
There's no single solution to life's struggles. We all navigate our own paths, facing unique obstacles. Instead of judging, let's celebrate the journey. Let's support each other, even if we don't agree with every step someone takes.
Remember, the world needs a little more empathy and a lot less judgment. So next time you find yourself wanting to criticize, take a breath, step back, and choose understanding instead.
